Recycling Handbook

project 5 of 12

The context of the Recycling Handbook is based on my research and interpretation of information available on the topic of waste and waste reduction in San Francisco (specifically) and beyond. As a starting point I used items that I myself was uncertain about despite being actively engaged in the practice of recycling.

The Recycling Handbook is designed to inform and educate consumers about what belongs in which bin in San Francisco. I created all of the illustrated line drawings to create a language of familiarity across a wide range of materials.

The handbook also includes charts, graphs, tables and diagrams which serves an educational purpose a well as being visually compelling. I bound the handbook with a plastic bag to emphasize the possibilities of re-use. It is printed on Strathmore Windpower Sketch paper, composed of 30% post-consumer fiber. This holistic approach was a key component of this project.
